Cameo Baby Steps!

I splurged a few weeks ago and purchased a Sihouette Cameo cutting machine. I replaced my Cricut with a Cameo for a couple of reasons. One of the big reasons was because it was pretty pricey to purchase cartridges for my Cricut, so therefore I did not have a lot of choice for the shapes that I wanted to cut. Another reason was that when I would cut a shape with my Cricut, I had to cut out every little piece and THEN re-assemble the pieces to create the look that I wanted to achieve. Of course, if I took the time to re-assemble, my creations were adorable! But spending this much time making an item lost its appeal to me pretty quickly. So I was attracted to the Cameo because it connects to my computer and I can use clip art and fonts that are already installed on it. The Silhouette studio offers tons of shapes in their on-line store for 99 cents, too. This is a great deal compared to what I was paying for my Cricut cartridges. The beauty of the Cameo is that you can use what is already present in your computer, so any font or alphabet package that you have will work!

I am a person who will not be defeated by a machine, but there was (and continues to be) a definite learning curve for understanding how the Cameo works. There are a lot of tutorials on the internet for how to use the Cameo.

I have the most success with these links:

My best advice is to be patient when learning this machine! As I was learning the ins and outs of the Cameo, I made A LOT of mistakes! I am still a newbie with it, but I have a million ideas swirling around in my head!

This is an image of a product that I worked on this weekend! I imported  POP SCHOOL ALPHABET and GET A JOB clip art from Lettering Delights. Both of these resources were already in my document file. I made a matching game with the alphabet letters and vehicle pictures. I laminated the images and VOILA! - a cute alphabet game!

Now the fun part....... Blog Hoppin' is hosting a giveaway for a new Cameo - Woo hoo! Click here or the on Cameo image above to go to Blog Hoppin for the details! Silhouette Cameo also offers an education discount, so check out their website to see if you qualify!

Have a great day!
